Project Grow – Youth Garden

We are excited to to have welcomed the 37 youth who have joined in the 2024 Project Grow: Youth Garden Contest! These youth will discover how rewarding it is to nurture and grow their own garden and to have a better understanding of where food comes from and how to create food security!

We provide the seeds, they grow the garden! Registration is now closed for 2024.

While learning to grow fruits & veggies is amazing all by itself, our youth gardeners have a chance to win great prizes for the top 3 gardens! All gardens presented to our judge will receive a weekend Family Fair Pass for participating.

Project Grow is an initiative of the Salmon Arm Fair, Shuswap Food Action, Shuswap Agricultural Association and supported by Grow & Change Horticultural Services, SASCU and Buckerfield’s Salmon Arm.

You can see more and enjoy the journey of many of the kids here at the Facebook Page :

Contestants who complete a garden along with their families are invited to come to the opening ceremonies of the Salmon Arm Fair, Friday, August 23rd.  They can meet one another, receive their Fair Passes and also take part in the announcement of the 3 finalists.

Contest Timeframe:

Registration is now closed for 2024.

Gardens are ideally planted by the beginning of June to allow for maturity of crops by Mid August.

Gardens will have our Judge, Jazmyn Evans, come out in August and see them in their mid-summer glory! This will lead to us choosing the top 3 gardens (which is nearly impossibly as they are all so good).

We encourage the youth to keep growing their gardens and plant a Winter garden too!
