Shuswap Food Action for Schools! One of our favourite parts of our school meal programs is the amazing community connections they create between our organization, local farmers and local kids. This past week in our kitchens, we used ingredients purchased directly from Rosebank Farms, Hoisington Organic Farm, Mara Valley Produce, Green Croft Gardens, Alpine Meats, Sacred Earth Eco-Farm, A & L Peterson Orchard, Little Mountain Farm, Wallace Springs Farm, Keenan Family Farms, Song Hollow Farm, Shuswap Organics, Wild Flight Farm, DeMille’s Farm Market and D Dutchman Dairy.
Most of these items were fresh, others dried or frozen. Keeping these dollars in the community with local farmers while nourishing local kids is a win-win!
Jean-Francois of Sacred Earth Eco-Farm in Salmon Arm
Pictured here is Jean-Francois of Sacred Earth Eco-Farm in Salmon Arm. Jean-Francois and his wife Suzanne have been growing produce for Shuswap residents since 2017 and have been certified organic since 2018. The kids have been enjoying snacking on his baby carrots as part of our Souper Meal program. Other Sacred Earth products, including these delicious carrots, micro-greens, fresh greens and herbs, can be found in stores across the Shuswap including Askew’s Foods and DeMille’s Farm Market.

We always appreciate having a list of volunteers who can help make this magic happen. Flexible commitment for how often though it is very important that our volunteers do ensure they come the days they are scheduled! Those school meals have got to get out the door and into those bellies!
